Whitechapel Lyric Analysis
Whitechapels lyrics cover a variety of subjects, such as death, gore, flesh, and immortality. None of which are very radio friendly. The debut album, titled "The Somatic Defilement." The record is a concept album based on Jack the Ripper, in which all of the songs are first-person narratives of the slaughter of prostitutes. The second album, "This Is Exile" is also a concept album, but is based moreso around the themes of religion and poltiics. Their newest release, "A New Era of Corruption" is the first non-concept album Whitechapel has put out, which is written about more personal ideas.
The Somatic Defilement
Captivating with sadistic intentions to exalt the carrion
Holding onto faith like it would help me anyway
Up on my feet. Vehemence takes over as I pave the way to anatomical feasts
Severing the ties I once endured to understand why it is that I crave the dead
Going by my knowledge of popular culture
I find a sense in malpracticing the common ways
Wallowing in claret. I long for such salvation
For when I’m through. I shall wear your pride upon my lips
Songs of the dead will eternally be chanted
Before sepulture. I must purloin the genitalia.
I must find pleasure when you’re gone
An injection of sodium thiopental applied.
Your eyes are getting heavy now. I smell your fear
Delusions and paranoia are setting in
Control in my hands. I now shall purge.
With the saw I maim. By the saw I live
Inhaling fumes of the putrid festered funk
As I drain the throbbing cysts from the gangrenous vagina
The mordant reek is overtaking every inhalation
The nausea is overwhelming. I stop to heave
Brought forth are my confessions to the dead
As the lies coincide with vitriolic clues
We all will spread disease
We’re all deceased
Carved in your face. The sacrilegious rites
These words bring truth to what was foretold
Corpses and bile will reconcile
The rumors of this forensic plague
By these words I am one with the dead
And with this I’ve claimed the one which I’m wed
Until death do us part. We’ll rot hand in hand.
Father of Lies
Tell me all the things you want
I shall prove myself among the wise
I have failed you
Grant my wish I beg of thee
For I have done all the deeds you have asked of me
That whimpering wretched whore who birthed your adversary
I retrieved her head and mutilated every last remain
The blood of the innocent I have spread with no fucking remorse
How dare you interfere my monumental wake
Forever keep these words from my mouth
I will become the father of lies
Holiest of holy, I ensure your crucification
Enlighten me O noble one of your mendacity
Give me the clearest view of your so-called commonwealth
We are your foes, annihilators of the sky
Limb from limb
The rites are carved into your forehead
Limb from limb
Engorged into your psyche
Limb from limb
I smell the decrepit stench of your demise
Limb from limb
Humanity will be destroyed
My pro-creator I have warned thee of my prophecy
Until that day, stand your fucking ground
My pro-creator, stand your fucking ground
Murder Sermon
Father I have sinned
Forgive me for I don't know what I do
I have become devoid of faith
I am devoid of faith
As I mutter these words into his ear
His hypocritical eyes show me the origin of fear
Suddenly it seems he has lost all faith
In the one who's faulty life he helped erased
He tells me that he can make things right
I take his inverted symbol of everlasting life
And brand it on his flesh, in between his eyes
This is a cold blooded crime
But it just feels so right
The upper hand is mine
And so is his life
On this cold night my sermon be preached before his majesty
Now overthrown to be silenced by violence
This is not the devil's work
This is a murder sermon, proven to be real
Murder sermon
Murder sermon
On this cold night my sermon be preached before his majesty
Now overthrown to be silenced by violence
This is not the devil's work
This is a murder sermon, proven to be real
I cannot be changed
You're the one to blame
Stare into the face
Of the one you can't save
So now you've taken all you can ingest
I rip your still beating heart from your chest
Look me in the eye as you take your last breath
I hope your soul never rests
I cannot be changed
You're the one to blame
Stare into the face
Of the one you can't save
A New Era of Corruption released!
Official press release:
Knoxville, Tennessee's Whitechapel is pleased to release the cover art and track listing for their third full-length release, A New Era of Corruption due out June 8th via Metal Blade Records. "The album is finally 100% complete and we couldn't be more excited. I think this record truly represents where we are as musicians at this point in our career. A New Era of Corruption is the heaviest and most aggressive material we have written to date," comments guitarist and founding member Alex Wade. Alex continues: "Some of you may notice that the title of the new record, A New Era of Corruption, is a line from the song 'Possession' off of our last album This Is Exile. We wanted to name the CD this to bring a little flavor from 'This Is Exile' into the new CD, as well as I think the name represents this new age of extreme metal that we are currently rising in. The album is not a concept record like This Is Exile was. It just has its own general theme and each song deals with its own topic track by track."
Track listing:
01. Devolver
02. Breeding Violence
03. The Darkest Day of Man
04. Reprogrammed to Hate
05. End of Flesh
06. Unnerving
07. A Future Corrupt
08. Prayer of Mockery
09. Murder Sermon
10. Necromechanical
11. Single File to Dehumanization
Bonus Track Animus available only on digital and vinyl versions of A New Era of Corruption
Handling artwork for A New Era of Corruption is Brent Elliot White who has also handled cover artwork for bands like Job For A Cowboy and Carnifex. "Brent handled the artwork for the record and absolutely nailed it. The dark and ominous vibe he portrayed with his art fits the mood of the CD perfectly," states Alex.
A New Era of Corruption features guest vocals from Vincent Bennett of The Acacia Strain on the track "Murder Sermon" and Chino Moreno from the Deftones on the track "Reprogrammed to Hate." Alex elaborates: "Vincent has been a long time friend of the band and we have always talked about him doing guest vocals on one of our records, so naturally his style of vocals fits our music perfectly and sounds great. We're honored to have Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno on our record. All of us are huge Deftones fans so it's pretty surreal for us. He absolutely killed his part on the album and it's everything I envisioned it would be. Plus it's cool that Chino was so opened minded to do vocals on something so extreme; I think that it sounds fantastic."
In support of the upcoming release of A New Era of Corruption, Whitechapel is hitting the road to play about 30 dates, most of which are with labelmates Job for a Cowboy and Cattle Decapitation including stops at the New England Metal & Hardcore fest and the California Metal fest. Then come the summer, Whitechapel will be on the road as a part of the Vans Warped Tour Twenty Ten.
"We have some killer tours coming up in support of the new record, the first one being with Job For A Cowboy and the second one being Vans Warped Tour. The JFAC tour will be cool as it will be in smaller rooms with a more intimate setting with the fans. This is something we haven't done in a very long time so it will be awesome to go back and do some shows like that. Then we will be doing the complete opposite and playing to thousands of people a day on the Vans Warped Tour so we are very excited and honored to be a part of that."
Last but certainly not least, Whitechapel is set to film their first music video for the track "The Darkest Day of Man" off of A New Era of Corruption. The band will once again be working with famed metal video director David Brodsky of MyGoodEye and will be shooting in April. Stay tuned toMetalBlade.tvand Whitechapel's MySpace page for more details.
